Conquer Any Terrain: Discover the All-Terrain TerrainHopper Wheelchair
TerrainHopper opens up a world of exploration, letting you tackle rugged landscapes and embrace adventure on your terms. British-designed and manufactured in Lincolnshire, these all-terrain mobility vehicles use award-winning patented suspension technology to take you through mud, sand, snow, rocky riverbeds, and even shallow water. Say goodbye to limitations and hello to mountain summits, beaches, forests, moorland, and UK National Parks. This is not just mobility. It’s access to a life outdoors.
What Is TerrainHopper?
TerrainHopper builds all-terrain mobility vehicles for extreme outdoor exploration. Unlike conventional mobility scooters, which are mostly limited to pavements and smooth paths, TerrainHoppers are engineered to conquer wild landscapes across the UK. Built at The Old Grainstores in Manby, Lincolnshire, every vehicle is designed, engineered, and assembled in Britain for serious off-road performance.
There are three core models to suit different needs:
Overlander 4ZX
- The flagship four-wheel-drive machine.
- 250mm ground clearance and the ability to climb gradients up to 35°.
- Carries users up to 30 stone (190kg).
Four 750-watt motors deliver up to 3000 watts of peak power. - Range of 20–40 miles depending on battery setup.
Flatlander
- A highly capable two-wheel-drive model.
- 120–180mm ground clearance, can tackle 30% inclines.
- Carries users up to 16 stone (102kg).
- Two 1214-watt motors (up to 2428 watts total peak power).
- Range of 8–48 miles depending on battery configuration.
Overlander Mini
- A compact version designed for younger or smaller adventurers (from around age 7).
- Four-wheel drive, side roll bars, and full independent suspension for safety and stability.
What Makes TerrainHopper Different
TerrainHopper is not “a tougher mobility scooter.” It’s a purpose-built, all-terrain mobility vehicle with technology that doesn’t exist anywhere else in the off-road mobility market.
Patented All-Round Independent Suspension
The suspension system, recognised for innovation by Medilink East Midlands, independently absorbs shocks from rocks, roots, kerbs, steps, and uneven ground. This drastically reduces the jarring impact you’d feel in a traditional wheelchair or scooter. That means longer, more comfortable adventures — hours, not minutes.
Unique Dual Steering Capability
TerrainHopper is the only off-road mobility vehicle that offers both handlebar/throttle steering and joystick steering on the same vehicle. You can switch between them instantly.
Why this matters:
- On long days out, you can swap from manual throttle to joystick when you’re tired, without stopping.
- On difficult ground (mud, ruts, cambers, tight gaps), joystick control can give more precise handling.
- A companion standing beside you can operate the joystick to assist or take control when it’s safe.
This flexibility removes a major barrier: fatigue. You don’t have to “save energy” for the way back. No other off-road mobility brand offers this.
British Engineering and Safety
All TerrainHopper models are CE approved as Class 2 or Class 3 mobility products and meet strict UK/EU standards. The Overlander 4ZX even has two independent electrical systems — one for the front motors, one for the rear. If one system fails, you can still drive home in two-wheel drive mode. You are never stranded miles from help.
Where a TerrainHopper Can Take You
These vehicles are built for serious terrain:
- Deep mud and boggy moorland.
- Soft sand beaches and pebbled coastlines.
- Rocky riverbeds and uneven woodland trails.
- Snow and icy tracks in winter.
- Shallow streams (with optional waterproofing).
- Steep gradients from 17° to 35°, depending on the model.
This means summits, not just viewpoints. It means woodland trails, not just car parks. It means you can go alongside family, not watch from a bench.
Real People, Real Freedom
The real proof of TerrainHopper is in what owners (and test users) are doing.
Trish Brookes: Back on the Hills After Spinal Injury
“After gaining my spinal injury in 2021 I never thought I'd be able to ramble with family again, but how wrong was I… I had my 1st experience using the TerrainHopper & I can't wait to get out again.”
For Trish, it wasn’t about “going for a drive.” It was about rejoining her family in real countryside, on real trails.
Max: A Day Outdoors That Changed Everything
Jeff Obbard described his son’s first outing: “Yesterday, my handicapped son, Max, had a fabulous outing on the TerrainHopper. This has opened up new possibilities for him in the great outdoors.”
That phrase — “opened up new possibilities” — comes up again and again from parents. It’s about independence, dignity, and shared experience.
Sarah: “I Can Join My Family Again”
“Owning a TerrainHopper has given me my independence back. I can now join my family on walks I thought I'd never see again.”
This is the heart of it. TerrainHopper doesn’t just move you. It lets you participate.

Looking After Your TerrainHopper
These vehicles are built for mud and rough country, but regular care keeps them performing at their best.
- Annual service is recommended for normal use.
- For very heavy use (saltwater, deep mud, regular water crossings), a service every 3 months is advised.
- After muddy or off-road use: hose down (not jet wash), paying attention to suspension and wheels.
- After beach use: always rinse with fresh water to remove salt and sand.
- Regularly check battery charge, tyre condition and pressure, lights/indicators, and suspension components.

Access The Dales Partnership
TerrainHopper partners with Access The Dales in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. They provide guided experiences, TerrainHopper hire, and accessible route planning. This means you don’t need to own a unit to experience high-level terrain access. It also means National Park landscapes that were once effectively off-limits are now reachable.
Your Adventure Starts Now
TerrainHopper is freedom. Freedom to climb, cross, roll, splash, and be present in wild places again. Freedom to say “yes” when friends suggest a walk. Freedom to see your kids or grandkids explore — and be right there with them.
From mountain paths to forest trails, from sandy bays to snowy tracks, TerrainHopper turns “I can’t” back into “When are we going?”
