Our Story

TerrainHopper began with Sam and Debbie, our founders, who shared a passion for exploring the outdoors.

From the stunning heights of Stanage Edge in the Peak District to the breathtaking trails of Ben Nevis and the Welsh mountains, they loved long, adventurous walks, fully equipped with hiking gear.
When they had two young children, these scenic walks became a challenge they couldn’t carry them over 15-mile long treks. Being an engineer and inventor, Sam created a solution: a rugged, all-terrain buggy that their children could drive safely up mountains, letting the whole family experience nature together without the struggle.
A friend of Sam and Debbie’s who loved the outdoors but faced mobility challenges saw the buggy in action and wished for a wheelchair that could do this for her as there was nothing on the that could take her to these incredible views. Sam took up the challenge. He researched the standards and medical directives for wheelchairs and scooters and without being encumbered with a stereotypical design brief he created a fantastic off-road product for the disabled market. And that’s how TerrainHopper was born: out of a love for adventure, innovation, and making the outdoors accessible to everyone.
